Friends and family
Adam and Leslie were out here finally last week, and we had so much fun! I miss them both dearly and wish that we weren't so far away. So what did we do? Lots! Despite my pulling a muscle in my back and dealing with some pretty strong spasms, we managed to see the Sears Tower and the Frank Lloyd Wright house/studio; shop at the outlet mall in Aurora, the Crate and Barrel outlet, and the Tiger Direct outlet; and make pilgrimages to Sonic (in Aurora) and Chick-fil-A (in Racine, WI). Being able to hang out and talk, and play games, and just enjoy the company is something that I really treasure. Good friends are the family you get to choose, and there's no greater example of that than the relationship we share with them.
With the holidays coming up, I've done a lot of thinking about Thanksgiving. Last year, we had a poorly planned sit down meal with an "after party," and that's really not me. More accurately, it's too much for me. I put so much effort into the preparations for the meal, that the concept of staying up late for an after party is a denouement to events that happened elsewhere. I still have some time to think about this, and to invite folks, but I do want to have the Thanksgiving that makes me happy rather than the Thanksgiving that is convenient for others.
